1948 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet
Build Date 1997

This kit is the version reissued by Lindberg in the late 1990s. The original kit was tooled by Pyro around 1955, and is quite crude by current standards.

However, with a bit of work, it can be developed into an acceptable model, particularly in view of the fact that no other version of this milestone vehicle has ever been produced.

The kit features a multi-piece body, but I deviated from the instructions by assembling the body first. That allowed me to fill seams and apply a uniform paint job. I custom mixed a blue-black enamel typical of the period and applied it with an airbrush.

I built a version of this kit in the early 60s, and there are a couple of differences between that early version and this one. The early kit did not include chrome plated parts, but in the reissued version, Lindberg corrected that omission. They also included a decal sheet which provided some detailing not present in the original version.

Unfortunately Lindberg deleted the original plastic wheels and tires and substituted those with tires that were grossly out of scale. I used the kit's wheels but added tires from The Modelhaus to boost authenticity.
